A cozy, creative holiday guide from my home to yours.
This year, I decided to decorate for Christmas using mostly what I already had on hand — thrifted containers, sale finds, faux greenery from past years, and fresh greens and holly that I cut from my stepmother’s yard. I wasn’t feeling my best, so I didn’t fuss and perfect everything the way I normally might… and honestly? Everything still turned out so lovely.
It reminded me that holiday decorating doesn’t need to look like Pinterest to feel meaningful. Sometimes “simple and from the heart” is exactly right.
🎄 1. Thrifted White Soup Tureen
This poor tureen was missing its lid when I thrifted it, but it’s become one of my favorite décor pieces. I normally keep faux ferns in it, secured in a foam block. This year, I just removed the ferns and tucked in a mix of fresh greens, faux sprigs, and real holly.
It sits safely on top of my kitchen cabinets — out of reach of my fur babies, who would absolutely try to nibble the holly!
🍲 2. Estate Casserole Dish
This pretty casserole dish came from my husband’s uncle’s estate. I love giving sentimental pieces new life. I filled it with fresh and faux greens, holly, a sweet Christmas ornament that says Noel, and two wooden birds.
It sits near the tureen on top of the cabinets and makes the whole space feel warm and collected.
🪵 3. Vintage Wooden Toolbox Centerpiece
This old wooden toolbox makes the best rustic centerpiece. I mixed in greens, faux berries, and real birch branches for a natural, wintery feel.
It lives on our dining table and might be my favorite arrangement of the season.
4. đź‘©Head Bust Vase (TJ Maxx Find)
I usually keep hand lotions tucked inside this stylish head vase on the back of our toilet (a fun, practical touch!). For Christmas, I swapped the lotions for fresh clippings and a few faux accents.
Instant holiday charm in the bathroom — proof that no space is too small to decorate.
🌬️ 5. Galvanized Outdoor Containers
For outdoors, I used galvanized containers I thrifted long ago. I added real greens, faux berries, ribbon, and a couple of little lanterns from the dollar store.I have to say I’m pleased with how it brightens up our front entrance!
🧺 6. Vintage Washing Machine Planter
This old winger washing machine sits in our yard and always reminds me of my grandmother, who used one just like it long after more updated ones were available. For Christmas, I filled it with real greens, holly, and ribbon.
It’s simple, but every time I see it, I smile.
A Little Reminder From My Home to Yours
I hope these simple arrangements inspire you to decorate with what you already have — thrifted treasures, family pieces, old containers, and greenery you can clip right from your yard (or a loved one’s).
You don’t need brand-new décor.
You don’t need perfect arrangements.
You don’t need a picture-perfect home.
You just need a little imagination… and a few things you already own.
Sometimes the most meaningful decorations are the ones with stories behind them.
